This article discusses how to batch process folders with e-mail message files and convert them from e-mail to HTML, e-mail to TXT, e-mail to RTF as well as into other formats. How to convert msg to eml and other formats.
Multiformat email conversion
Although e-mails in practice are plain text or HTML documents, most mail clients use file containers for a unified way of storing messages: .eml (Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Thunderbird), .msg (MS Outlook) and .mbx (Opera Mail). Naturally, any e-mail program will include the ability to save e-mails in a compatible format, whether in the above-mentioned HTML (mail to HTML conversion) or text (e-mail to TXT). But mail programs are most definitely not meant for batch processing folders to convert large numbers of e-mails or convert EML. To accomplish these tasks it is necessary to use such third-party utilities as EML to PST Converter.
How to convert EML to HTML with the help of the EML to PST Converter utility
Besides its basic function of converting files from EML to PST for use with Outlook, EML to PST utility can also operate as a multi format converter. All that the user needs to do is turn on this option by checking the Convert to: checkbox on the first page of the wizard.

The program offers users several modes which can be chosen from the drop-down list. In order to save e-mail messages in HTML, perform an email to HTML conversion by choosing HTML mode; to convert to text (email to TXT), select the corresponding option for “TXT – Plain Text.” It is also possible to convert from email to RTF, the expanded text format for MS Word. When choosing this option, it is possible to select either the usual RTF or RTF without headers, in which case only the message contents will be saved, without any of the message headers. TNEF mode saves letters in TNEF (Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format) format, which contains text formatting instructions and special Outlook elements as well as attachments. As a rule, this format is used by the MS Outlook and Microsoft Exchange clients.
The converter also supports saving .eml files in .msg format (MSG – Outlook message mode) or the RFC822 .eml standard (EML – RFC822 mode). The latter option is useful for converting .emlx files (the .eml equivalent for Mac OS X and Unix systems) for use with Windows mail clients. After choosing the necessary conversion mode, the user needs only to indicate the path to the .eml source files and wait for the converter to finish its work. The files that the program generates are saved in the given format in the same directory as the original messages.
